i don’t like cages…

A student writes:

I’m going to write about everything that will enjoy and stimulate me during the course and about the results of my searches. I don’t like cages, so I don’t want to define a special subject of interest. Instead, I’m going to talk about fashion design or graphic design or whatever connected with design.

Actually design lives on cages, boundaries, constraints. If you are going to write on whatever connects with design, you will fail.

The task is the opposite: to choose carefully a theme, a narrow one. Be thematic, choose carefully what you want to talk about and become an expert on that.
